Scholarship Application
Founded in 1934, Casita Maria is a cultural arts and education center located in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. Our mission is to empower youth and their families by creating a culture of learning through high-quality social, cultural, and educational opportunities.
The William E. Simon Scholarship was established in 1985 by William E. Simon through a gift to the Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education. Since then, Casita Maria has been administering the scholarship fund to South Bronx children attending Roman Catholic High Schools. This year, Casita Maria will award two $1,500 William E. Simon scholarship, renewable for up to four years, to a student enrolled in a Roman Catholic High School with an excellent academic standing.
Eligibility
- Enrolled in a Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York High School
- Currently a student in grades 8 through 12
- Demonstrate a Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of 75% or better and maintain academic excellence to continue receiving the scholarship
- An active participant in Casita Maria’s after-school program and/or summer camp preferred

- Candidate Bio (respond in no more than 500 words)
- Tell us about yourself: Describe one subject you enjoy and why.
- Describe your involvement in any extracurricular, volunteer or community work, club membership, or sports activity that is most meaningful to you. Explain why it is important to you.
- Official academic transcript or report card.
- Parent or guardian previous years tax return.
Deadline
All applications must be submitted electronically via this Google Form, click HERE
to fill out your application by September 29, 2023
Applications received after the deadline will be disqualified. Should any of the following conditions occur:
- Recipient provides false information on application;
- Recipient is not enrolled in a High School under the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York;
- If an applicant submits an incomplete application package, the application will be disqualified.
