  • Development Associate

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education is looking for a Development Associate to support the Development Manager and the Executive Director in managing fundraising activities for the organization. The Development Associate will work with a dynamic and thriving team of professionals, who enrich and uplift youth through shared cultural, art and educational experiences and programs. The Associate will be responsible for various administrative and logistical tasks related to fundraising. This role will have an excellent opportunity to learn fundraising operations for a well-established non-profit. 


    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Departmental coordination:Assist with execution of fundraising plans, including tracking deadlines, setting up meetings, and coordinating with staff across departments. 
    • Donor database:Assume primary responsibility for updating and maintaining Casita Maria's CRM platform Bloomerang, including data on individual and institutional donors and sponsors. Generate reports from the database as requested. 
    • Institutional donor cultivation:Maintain schedule of institutional proposal and reporting deadlines; help to prepare reports and proposals as directed. 
    • Electronic document archive:Maintain and migrate electronic archive of Casita Maria's government funding data into Bloomerang CRM.
    • Correspondence:Generate donor acknowledgement letters and other routine correspondence.
    • Fundraising campaigns: Assist in development and execution of annual appeals and fundraising campaigns.
    • Events:Assist Event Planner and other staff with coordination of fundraising events, including the annual gala.

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 3 to 4 years’ experience working in a non-profit organization supporting fundraising activities or related combination of education and experience.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to interact with staff and funders across multiple levels of seniority, backgrounds, etc.
    • Adept in Bloomerang CRM; experience with donor management software and fundraising databases.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills; keen attention to detail.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects and complete them with minimal supervision.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish is highly desirable.
    • Willing to work weekends and/or evenings occasionally for special events , as needed.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
    • Experience with utilizing social media platforms to help support fundraising efforts.

  • Middle School Program Coordinator

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Program Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the assigned Casita Maria after-school and summer camp program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to training, managing, and evaluating a team of professionals, and executing the program’s curriculum and design in a proficient manner in order to meet contractual obligations while maintaining a safe environment in accordance with various regulations. Additionally, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the program development and managing relations with school and program partners. 


    The Program Coordinator will be supported by a team of Education professionals including the Education Specialist, Associate Program Coordinator, Group Leaders, Teaching Artists, and Interns/Volunteers. Program Coordinators work in partnership with Casita Maria departments that include HR, Finance, Creative Arts, and Communications.


    OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • The position is required to complete 30 hours of training that address topics and subject matters set forth in school-aged child care regulation 414.14 (d).
    • Implements high-quality programming, which includes fostering a supportive and engaging environment.
    • Oversees after-school and summer camp programs, ensuring alignment with Casita Maria’s mission, strategy, and objectives, while ensuring contractual requirements are met including but not limited to the Rate of Participation and the enrollment benchmark.
    • In coordination with the Education team, develop work scope, manage and implement a program schedule of activities in accordance with specifications and funding.
    • Recruit, enroll and retain program participants utilizing approved promotional or marketing methods, such as brochures, flyers or presentations at parent-teacher conferences and school/community meetings.
    • Distribute, receive, audit, and manage program files and participant applications to ensure that the required regulations are met and ready for program audits by funders and regulators.
    • Ensure data entry and attendance are managed weekly on the required databases including DYCD Connect. 
    • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of incidents or changes on required databases. 
    • Organize program logistics including but not limited to program schedules, supply order requests, maintain and update program supply inventory, space reservations and requests for any resources needed. 
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with schools, youth, other community organizations, program partnerships, and parents and families.
    • In coordination with the Education team, interview, train, manage and evaluate a team of professionals including but not limited to Group Leaders, Teaching Artists, and the Associate Program Coordinator.
    • Supervise, observe and conduct weekly/monthly staff meetings with direct reports.
    • Create and maintain a welcoming, productive, and encouraging environment for participants, their families, and members of the community.  
    • Collaborate with families to increase family engagement and ensure the needs of participants are met.
    • Create a strong sense of community that values respect, acceptance, and sets high expectations.

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated supervisory experience.

    OR

    • At least 5 years of relevant experience, three of which were in a supervisory position; and is actively pursuing a BA/BS degree and will be enrolled in a BA/BS degree-bearing program within 6 months of the date hereof. 
    • Exceptional writing and editorial skills required; clear verbal communication skills required.
    • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Part-time

Casita Maria accepts applications for the following positions on a rolling basis. As opportunities become available, we will contact you. Applicants must be available to work in-person Monday through Friday between the hours of 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Proof of COVID vaccination is required for all positions. Face masks are optional.

  • Group Facilitators (K to 5th grade) and (6th to 8th grade)

    POSITION SUMMARY

    A Group Facilitator is a direct line staff member who is responsible for leading in one or more STEAM discipline areas, physical activities, or other activities that develop and strengthen academic, physical, and social skills. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing academic support, facilitating activities, and developing lessons that are aligned with our Creative Youth Development (CYD) framework and are in accordance with the required Department of Youth and Community (DYCD) Development and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOH) regulations.


    Group Facilitators are supported by a team of education professionals including the Program Coordinator, the Associate Program Coordinator, the Education Specialist and Teaching Artists.  


    OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

    SUPPORT

    • Supervise young people transitioning from the school day into the after-school program; track attendance, oversee snack distribution, transition to activities, and dismissal.
    • Create and maintain a structured safe space (classroom/studio) that supports learning, growing, and supports social-emotional well-being.
    • Log and report daily attendance, behavior, and incident reports.
    • While working with a teaching artist, appropriately support their work and encourage young people to participate and engage in the activity.

    DEVELOP

    • In coordination with the Education Specialist, develop engaging and age-appropriate lesson plans and instructional material for STEAM, civic engagement, physical recreation, arts & crafts, and literacy activities.
    • Develop unit outline curriculum for activities like Civic Engagement in alignment with the unit framework created by the Education Leadership Team
    • Actively participate and attend weekly/bi-weekly/monthly team meetings and one-on-one sessions.
    • Build positive relationships with young people to establish positive connections and rapport.

    FACILITATE

    • Facilitate lessons in at least one or more of the following activities: STEAM, civic engagement, physical recreation, arts & crafts, and literacy activities that encourage growth and exploration.
    • Model the principles of CYD in the classroom/studios and in the workplace.

    QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    • High school diploma required; currently enrolled in college, preferably in education or youth development field.
    • A minimum of 2 years of direct experience working with children under 13 years of age.
    • Participation in our training and professional development workshops that focus on youth development, safety, mandated reporter, social-emotional learning, lesson planning, and facilitation is required.

  • Teaching Artist

    POSITION SUMMARY

    This is a direct service position, requiring strong teaching and group faciliation skills fueled by a passion for arts, culture and community. We are looking for Teaching Artists for the following disciplines:


    1. Bomba/ Plena (working with youth in 6th - 8th grades).
    2. Musical Theater (working with youth in 3rd  - 8th grades).

    Reporting to the Artistic Director and working in collaboration with the Director of Education and Programs, the Teaching Artist will be responsible for following a Creative Youth Development framework informed by Expressive Arts and Social Emotional Learning to prepare Young Artists for high quality culminating events including but not limited to the: Young Artist Gallery, Halloween Parade, Parranda Navideña/ Christmas tree lighting, Winter Spectacular, Musical Theater Production, Teens Take the Met, Publick Works Auditions, South Bronx Culture Festival.


    The Teaching Artist will be supported by a team of professionals including the Artistic Director and Director of Education and Programs.


    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Teach young artists about and celebrate the history, cultures and communities of the South Bronx through the Arts while honoring Casita Maria’s 90 years of service to the community and our roots.
    • Develop culturally relevant and tiered Syllabi, reflecting on Casita Maria’s identity and organized in 4-12 week modules. The syllabi will build on artistic and life skills throughout the year to prepare young artists for high quality culminating events, auditions, higher education, and if inspired, a career in the arts. 
    • Informed by the syllabi, create and implement CYD Lesson Plans combining structured activities that teach technique through tiered skill building based on age and opportunities where young artists can play and explore through an expressive arts model. Lesson Plans to be submitted no less than four weeks in advance.
    • Syllabi and Lesson Plans are created in collaboration with the Artistic Director and Teaching and Therapeutic Artist Coordinator and in consultation with the Director of Education and Programs.
    • Maintain a structured classroom environment focused on active participation that is conducive to learning while being flexible to respond to the needs of the young artists each session. Teaching Artists must be able to adapt to the needs of the class, tap into emotional regulation resources and move out of lessons as needed while still thinking about goals and objectives.
    • Maintain clear safety protocols as per the design of the program.
    • Promote the following values through your teaching: Commitment, Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Creative Innovation, Confidence, Celebration.
    • Set up and break down assigned Studio each session.
    • Attend professional development training and required meetings as necessary plus participate in all rehearsals and culminating events as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIRED SKILLS

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field with 3 to 5 years experience teaching young artists in grades K- 12th in an urban after-school environment.
    • Experience creating culturally relevant syllabi and lesson plans.
    • Expertise in presenting culturally relevant and engaging visual and performing arts events in a community-based setting.
    • Strong teaching, classroom management  and group facilitation skills.
    • Demonstrated experience working with young artists in grades K - 8th.
    • Expertise in developing an art curriculum for young artists.
    • Experienced at guiding young artists to full-scale culminating events.
    • Loves working with children and has a firm understanding of youth development.
    • Passionate about the Arts.
    • Eager to work in a fast paced arts and education environment with an energetic, positive and passionate team.

    • Will be required to move and set up furniture/supplies/equipment in a room or outdoor event space. 
    • May require the use of a ladder.
    • Will require standing for long periods of time.
    • Will require walking, lifting, stooping, and bending.
    • Will require working during an outdoor event in May.
    • Work in a school environment.

    • Pay rate is $45 per hour.
    • Must be available to work Monday to Friday between the hours of 2 PM and 6 PM.
