Create New York
Now in its 2nd year, Theatre Development Fund (TDF) in partnership with Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education has launched the Create New York program for local South Bronxites and Casita Maria Community. Create New York is a multi-year partnership program between TDF and community centers in all five boroughs to bring together teams of adults to strengthen their neighborhood, the city and themselves. Groups of between 10-15 individuals connected with the community centers will complete a 3-year cycle with increasing autonomy every year.
TDF's CNY focuses on forging ongoing partnerships between TDF, community centers, community members, and local restaurants across the city. Each season small cohorts of adults are formed. Together we see live performances, discuss the impact and relevancy of each show at local restaurants, and at the end of every year each cohort creates and executes a free public event in and for their community. TDF pays for the program costs which include tickets, meals,
meetings, staffing and the community event.
